A university professor decides to take a boat trip with a sailor. After a while the scholar says to the sailor:
– Have you ever read The Betrothed?
The sailor replies:
– No… you know, I’m poor and I’ve always had to row.
The man of letters replies:
– You have lost half of your life!
After a while the professor asks:
– Have you ever read the Sepulchres?
The sailor replies:
– I had to fish and I didn’t have time!
The man of letters replies:
– She lost half her life!
After a while the sky becomes cloudy and a strong wind rises which overturns the ba
rca. The sailor asks the professor:
– Can you swim?
The scholar replies:
– No! I had to study!
The sailor with a satisfied voice:
– You have lost your whole life!
